Citizens Reservoir

Water Supply for the Future

New Citizens Reservoir

The new Citizens Reservoir located on Olio Road next to Geist Reservoir will provide over three billion gallons of additional water storage capacity by converting a retired 230 ft deep limestone quarry to a dedicated water storage facility. The new Citizens Reservoir will create a more resilient water supply for Central Indiana and all Citizens customers by helping to ensure sufficient water supplies are available during periods of drought and to support continued economic development and growth for future generations. The new Citizens Reservoir is designed strictly for water storage purposes with no public access for development or recreation.  The new Citizens Reservoir will be fully operational by summer 2021.

At 230 feet deep, Citizens Reservoir's depth is nearly equivalent to the height of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. The 90-acre Citizens Reservoir will be able to hold approximately half the volume of our 1,800-acre Geist Reservoir. The additional volume is enough to provide a year of water supply for over 100,000 Hoosiers.
